Using OpenID
August 12th 2008
You are welcome to use your OpenID credentials to register with Cryptosmith and/or to post comments.
When you register for the site with OpenID, the Cryptosmith site will automatically try to collect your name and e-mail address from the OpenID provider. This information will be copied into your profile. At present all profiles are private except to the site administration.
OpenID relies on a lot of different components, and the identity assurance is tied to the least reliable of those components. I’m willing to accept this low assurance from people who contribute comments.
OpenID Delegation
If you have your own web pages, you can use your site’s URL as an Open ID identifier. For example, I could log in using “www.cryptosmith.com” as my identifier instead of something from PIP or another provider.
Gary Krall of PIP/Verisign gave me some guidance on how to set up OpenID delegation with Verisign’s PIP service. That’s what I use myself.
