Professional Experience

  • 2002-3: Consultant for General Dynamics in Scottsdale, AZ. Performed security assurance analysis on cryptographic systems.
  • 1990-2002: Research scientist and engineer for Secure Computing Corporation, Rosedale, MN. Worked on government-sponsored research in information security; participated in product development, marketing, and sales; served as consultant to internal and external customers, both commercial and government.
  • 1988-1990: Project engineer at FMC Advanced Systems Center, Minneapolis, MN. Lead software designer for a DARPA sponsored robotics research program.

Before and during graduate school I took part in several interesting projects. In the late 1970s I worked for the ARPANET’s Network Control Center at Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, in Cambridge, MA, writing multiprocessor software for their most sophisticated network switch. At other times I wrote parsers for system design and programming languages at Honeywell and developed a patient tracking database for a community clinic program in St. Paul. My very first job was to help build a pioneering speech recognition device.
